The Productivity Commission today published its Report on Government Services 2024. The report shows how governments are performing in delivering 17 key services, including:
- education
- justice
- community service
- health
- emergency management
- Housing and homeless services
Government spending on these services will be approximately $348 billion in 2021-22, representing approximately 70% of the government's current expenditure.
“For nearly 30 years, the Report on Government Services has helped measure the efficiency and effectiveness of key services provided by government. I am a member of the cross-jurisdictional steering committee responsible for this report. I'm excited to be a part of this,” said Daniel Wood, Chair of the Productivity Commission.
New data has become available this year on residential aged care, home care, assessments and waiting times for the provision of these services.
“As the population ages, the affordability, quality and accessibility of aged care services will become increasingly important. This data will help consumers, policy makers and governments to help plan and respond to demand,” Wood said.
The report also includes new data on the cost and availability of primary and community health services, mental health services, and early childhood education and care.
“This data provides further insight into how cost of living pressures are impacting consumers' access to key services,” Ms Wood said.
This report will be published in seven parts from Monday, January 22, 2024 to February 5, 2024. The full publication schedule can be found below.
The release will be posted on the Productivity Commission website (www.pc.gov.au/rogs). This report is produced by the Productivity Commission on behalf of all Australian governments. The report for 2024 is 29.th Edition.
