Kenya Kwanzaa exceeds targets in digitizing government services.
Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Minister for Information, Communications and Digital Economy, revealed on Monday that the ministry had fully digitized 5,084 services as of July 31, 2023.
”As of July 31, 2023, the Department has identified 9,362 government services. “Of these, the ministry has fully digitized 5,084 services,” he said.
President William Ruto announced last year that 5,000 out of 7,000 government services need to be digitized by June this year.
Additionally, CS Owalo announced that a further 2,555 services have been partially digitized.
“Priority areas for digitalisation are health, land, Kenya Revenue Authority, transport, education, border management and citizen services,” he added.
The CS further highlighted that when the Ministry took over the e-citizenship platform, only 350 services had been implemented yet.
Mr. Owalo, however, did not mention the number of services currently available on the e-citizenship platform.
Last December, the government announced that all payments for government services would be made through the e-citizen portal.
Finance Minister Njuguna Ndung’u gazetted the portal as the government’s official digital payments platform.
All payments for government services are made in stages through eCitizen.go.ke.
The official government payment invoice number is 222222.
President Ruto said Kenyans should be able to pay for government services from the comfort of their homes without necessarily having to physically travel there.
He said significant progress has already been made in digitalization to close loopholes in tax collection issues.
Digitalization of government payments aims to increase revenue, minimize collection costs, and enhance service delivery.
