CAMP HUMPHRYS, South Korea — Col. Ryan Workman, U.S. Army Camp Humphreys commander, presented a letter of appreciation to Kim Jeong-ah, director of the Daejeon-Chungnam branch of the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), during a January 19 meeting. Presented. .
Workman expressed his gratitude for the successful completion of the 2023 Korean cultural tour.
The facility and KTO signed a memorandum of understanding to start the “K-Culture Tour” program in June 2023 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance. The program allowed U.S. military personnel and their families stationed at Humphreys to experience the charm and cultural heritage of South Korea. The tour was led by KTO in collaboration with Humphreys Public Affairs Office.
More than 600 U.S. military personnel and their families participated in nine tours held from April to October. The tour visited popular tourist destinations such as Taean-gun, as well as hidden tourist destinations that are not well known to foreigners, such as Cheongyang-gun and Geumsan City. Additionally, various traditional elements of Korean culture were introduced, such as hanbok (traditional Korean costume), hanok (traditional Korean life), Korean cuisine, and how to make makgeolli and rice cakes.
“One of our goals at Camp Humphreys is to allow Soldiers, civilians and families to experience Korean culture during their tours here,” Workman said. “The Korea Tourism Organization has played an important role in supporting us with this over the past few months, and we look forward to continuing our relationship this new year.”
