INDIANAPOLIS — Ahead of the May primary election, gubernatorial candidate Brad Chambers unveiled his education plan. The plan includes policies they hope to introduce to the Legislature to help students and teachers across the state.
Since announcing his “Learn More, Earn More” education plan just two weeks ago, Chambers said it has been generally well-received and has become “the cornerstone of Hoosier quality of life.”
Chambers also said education is fundamental to his focus on growing the state's economy.
“Improving education is very important to me, and having a thorough education plan is a must for me as governor,” Chambers said.
While senators and representatives are currently working with Congress on reading comprehension, Chambers also wants to ensure that all students pass IREAD3 before moving on to fourth grade. Mr. Chambers said that historically, too many students neglect their studies and do not read well.
Chambers said that while it can be difficult to discuss with parents the idea that their child is being held back, the long-term prospects are worse than being held back for a year.
Therefore, Chambers believes that, generally speaking, the education system needs to become more individualized for students. Mr. Chambers said that as modern society changes and economies and industries evolve, education systems need to do the same and cannot rely on “a 100-year-old system that truly supports future prosperity.” Stated.
Another policy Chambers wants to highlight that officials are working on at the state level is providing career development and awareness opportunities like HEA 1002.
Professor Chambers said there are many economic opportunities to build a great life in Indiana after high school, but the path needs to be made clearer to students.
“I think the Indiana education system requires us to start clarifying and outlining and educating kids in seventh grade what their options actually are,” Chambers said.
Chambers said the final piece of work that is being worked on but not yet finished is ensuring that all students have reliable broadband internet access.
With this goal, Chambers said quality is equally important in access to the internet, ensuring students have the access they need and is strong enough to meet their educational needs. Said it means to.
“This has and will continue to impact the educational opportunities of our children, so it must end as soon as possible,” Mr Chambers said.
Other policies highlighted by Mr Chambers in his education plan are ensuring funding is proportionate to each student, combating chronic absenteeism and increasing teacher pay based on performance.
Overall, Chambers said his campaign is focused on policy and giving voters an opportunity to understand it.
“Our ‘Learn More, Earn More’ plan outlines the characteristics we believe are the characteristics to ensure we have a workforce that is well-educated and able to participate in a growing economy.” said Chambers.
