Kenyans can now access more than 5,000 government services online.
President William Ruto said digitalization would improve the efficiency and comprehensiveness of service delivery.
The President said the system eliminates the inefficiency, corruption, waste and discrimination inherent in human interaction.
He pointed out that previously marginalized communities will no longer be excluded from government services.
He was speaking at the launch of the digital government service called Gaba Mkononi at the Kenyatta International Conference Center in Nairobi on Friday.
Those in attendance included Vice President Ligati Gachagua, Prime Minister Musalia Mudabadi, Cabinet Secretary, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, and private sector partners.
President Ruto said the service is also available on the e-Citizen platform with USSD code *2222# and Gava Express.
“Gava Express will be available in over 250,000 M-Pesa shops, 28,000 KCB shops, 40,000 stock shops and 22,000 cooperative bank shops to serve people without smartphones.” he explained.
The President said the government would use a single salary bill, 222 222, to be administered by the Ministry of Finance.
He urged Kenyans to take advantage of the digital training opportunities provided by the ICT Authority, which covers 20 million people.
The president said the remaining government services will be digitized within 90 days.
During the same period, the government will introduce digital identity cards.
He added that no cash payments will be made for government services for the next one month.
ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo said the free Wi-Fi project was also extended to markets and county industrial parks to enhance e-commerce.
“This automation will remove brokers from KEMSA and increase transparency in the NHIF claims system, claimed Health CS Susan Nakmicha.”
