SOLON, Ohio (WJW) — Nestlé has announced layoffs affecting 216 employees at its plant in Solon.
A Nestlé spokesperson told FOX 8 News on Monday that the food and beverage processor is “optimizing” its manufacturing network and moving production from the Solon plant to other locations in the United States.
The Solon plant will continue to play a role in the company's “growing” outdoor business, which could mean future expansion “as the business environment evolves,” the statement said.
“We are working hard to support our employees during this transition, including developing comprehensive separation packages to ease their career transitions and working with state and local governments to provide additional resources and support. We are committed to doing everything we can to support you,” the statement reads. “Affected employees will also be able to apply for open positions at other Nestlé manufacturing facilities, including in Ohio.”
The company employs more than 3,000 people at nine facilities in Ohio, according to a statement.
Last year, the company announced it would lay off 77 people from New Year's Eve to Aug. 2, 2024, at its Solon campus at Bainbridge and Harper streets.
Nestlé Purina Petcare announced in 2020 that it would build a new $550 million factory in Williamsburg Township, Clermont County. The factory is expected to open later this year and create 300 new jobs.
