In a release, Nestlé cited its commitment to Ohio despite Monday's layoffs, saying its new factory in Williamsburg Township, scheduled to open later this year, will bring 300 new jobs to the state. He said it would be brought.
3News has reached out to the City of Solon for comment on today's layoff announcement. “We are disappointed to hear this news,” said Angie Shaker, director of economic development. “Nestlé is like family to us, so this is sad news.”
The number of employees affected is in stark contrast to the expected number of layoffs for 2024, which Nestlé announced in November 2023. Nestlé previously announced that 77 workers would be laid off between December 31, 2023 and August 2, 2024.
A Nestlé spokesperson responded with the following statement:
”To best serve our consumers now and in the future, we are optimizing our manufacturing network and transferring some production from our Solon facility to other locations within our U.S. network.
“The Solon factory will continue to be an important part of our manufacturing network, running a line dedicated to our growing outdoor business. We look forward to adding to the factory’s capacity in the future as the business environment evolves. We will actively consider opportunities to do so.”
“We are working hard to support our employees through this change, including developing comprehensive separation packages to ease their career transitions and working with state and local governments to provide additional resources and support. We are committed to doing everything we can to support our employees. Affected employees are also encouraged to apply for open positions at other Nestlé manufacturing facilities, including in Ohio.
“Nestlé continues to make a commitment to Ohio, employing 3,000 people across nine facilities, including the Nestlé USA corporate campus and factory, a Nestlé Professional factory, two Purina factories, a Nespresso boutique, a sales office, a quality assurance lab, and a research and development center. We have more than 1,000 employees.”
