In Denmark, a new presidential decree came into effect on July 1, 2023, making it possible to issue guarantees of origin for hydrogen. This means PtX parties can trade green hydrogen and market and demonstrate that they are using green hydrogen in their processes.
According to the Danish Energy Agency, guarantees of origin were previously available only for electricity, gas and heat. In other words, these were the only areas in which energy companies could show they had traded. green energy.
From now on, it will be possible to issue a hydrogen origin guarantee, which certifies that a certain amount of hydrogen has been produced from renewable energy sources.
Therefore, PtX players have the opportunity to point out that they are supplying green hydrogen, and businesses and consumers in general can say that they are using green hydrogen.
The agency pointed out that the path to a green society must be through indirect electrification, especially through Power-to-X (PtX). This technology enables the production of fuels and chemicals that can replace fossil products using a large amount of hardware. – Sectors that are expected to decline, such as shipping, aviation, agriculture, parts of industry, and parts of heavy road transport.
Without transformation in these sectors, Denmark will not be able to achieve its long-term goal of climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest, the Danish Energy Agency points out, and importantly the hydrogen used in the PtX process will not be produced. The company added that it uses renewable energy sources and can now be guaranteed with a hydrogen origin guarantee.
