LOWELL CHARTER TOWNSHIP, MI — A major development is moving forward in Kent County that could create thousands of new jobs. The state announced it will award millions of dollars in grants to new projects in Lowell Township in partnership with The Right Place.
The facility will be built just off Interstate 96 at the corner of Cascade Road and Alden Nash.
“Lowell Charter Township has had a vision for this parcel of land for the better part of 30 years,” says Travis Alden, community development director for Wright Place.
Now, thanks to a $17.5 million grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, specifically its new Strategic Site Readiness Program, the town can make that vision a reality.
“The impact on this community will be significant by creating many good-paying jobs, which will help surrounding businesses in this area, including downtown Lowell,” said Town Supervisor Jerry. Hale says.
The funds will now be used to help develop the 237-acre space into a commercial and industrial park in hopes of attracting new businesses to the area.
“There could be a mix of national companies as well as local local companies that really need expansion space,” Alden said.
He says it's a great opportunity to drive growth.
“About 3,000 new jobs could be created here,” Alden said.
They are excited to bring such economic revitalization to the area.
“Greater Grand Rapids and West Michigan are truly one of Michigan's bright spots in terms of growth, energy and momentum,” Alden said. “And we want to be able to continue to move that forward in a smart way that's consistent with what the local community wants. That's the best place to see that actually come to fruition down the road.” I think.”
