Police in Nairobi have arrested a wanted crime leader who has been on the run for several months.
Police said Suspect 34 was a gang leader who masterminded the Siaya attack that left one police officer dead and another injured.
On November 20, 2023, police officers were robbed of their rifles while carrying exam papers to Mahero Secondary School in Alego Usonga sub-county, Siaya County.
Police said Edward was arrested on Friday, January 26, at a hideout in Nairobi's Dandora slum.
Earlier, police had released the names and photos of the suspects and their associates and appealed to the public to share information about their whereabouts.
This led to the arrest of one of his colleagues, Mr. Hastings Omondi, who was arrested in December 2023 at Usendi village in Bondo area of Siaya county.
The suspect was presented at Kahawa Law Court on Monday, January 29, 2024, and detectives were given 25 days to complete their investigation.
The attack led to a large-scale manhunt in the area and the arrest of dozens of suspects.
Some of those involved in the attack were later tracked down and killed in a police shootout in the area, and the stolen weapons were recovered.
Police believe a terrorist cell has been formed in the area and are now shifting their focus to the area.
