Five Pregnant girls have been rescued following a security raid on an infant factory in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The rescue operation was carried out in coordination with the Anambra State Ministry of Health and South East state security agencies.
The Secretary of Health, Dr. Afam Obedike, told journalists today that while the infant factory functioned as a hospital, it was also a venue for child trafficking.
The facility is known as 'Mother and Child Hospital and Obstetrics' and is located on the road near Tansiang University in Umunya.
“We have come to know that unregistered hospitals are operating in the state. We have created data to understand hospitals in the state so that people can receive good quality healthcare,” he said. Ta.
“Unfortunately, we found that one of the hospitals we came to inspect did not have those patients registered in our data system. And I came here to see it,” he said.
He said the facility was not registered with the Anambra State government, adding that seven nurses on duty had absconded with the government.
He estimated the ages of the victims to be between 14 and 21 and emphasized that Gov. Charles Soldo's administration is determined to address the threat.
“Unfortunately, this hospital is not registered and its activities are suspected to be highly fraudulent. So we decided to meet with the hospital's senior doctors and all seven nurses.
The rescued girls described their ordeal as follows. “They locked us outside. Before the gate opened, they ran after us. Seven or eight of them escaped. We saw little pregnant girls here. , some of them were girls aged 14, 15, 16 and 21,” the chief said.
