A backup team has been dispatched to Toyokoma City to track down a gang that is terrorizing residents.
This comes after two people were shot dead by a gang during a robbery on Monday night.
The victims include a woman and an accomplice who was accidentally shot.
According to police, the incident occurred when a three-member gang attacked a general store in Mushikoma district.
Witnesses told police the gang went to a store and asked them to deposit money to a mobile phone number.
When the officers responded to the gang, unaware of their mission, one of the gunmen grabbed the man's cell phone.
This prompted the man's wife to sound the alarm and try to help her husband.
According to police, one of the gunmen opened fire during the process, killing Christine Otachi at the scene.
Police said it was unclear whether the slain suspect was intentionally targeted.
The perpetrator also shot and killed his accomplice, who was standing behind the woman.
The other two gunmen stole Sh300,000 from the shop and fled on a motorbike.
Police who arrived at the scene said the attackers used up to eight bullets.
The team recovered a mobile phone, a hammer and eight spent 7.62mm special bullets. Bullets are used in rifles.
Police said the incident is being investigated but no arrests have been made.
The bodies of the woman and the unidentified man were moved to a morgue pending investigation.
Police say they want to identify the suspect who was killed as part of their investigation into the shooting.
Teams on the ground said they believed the gang behind the attacks were new to the area and efforts were underway to quell their movements.
Elsewhere in Wajir, a boda boda rider was hospitalized with stab wounds after being robbed.
The suspect told police that he had taken two male passengers to the Furaha area, where they turned out to be thugs.
The two stabbed Ryder in the head and neck and fled the scene.
The gang grabbed a motorbike and used it to flee the scene. Police said they are investigating Monday night's incident.
According to police, no arrests have been made so far.
