The house at 242 Beach Road in Blackrock was designed by renowned Australian architect Robin Boyd.
Hospitality mogul Maz Salt and her wife, University of Melbourne architecture lecturer Catherine Duggan, are selling a Robin Boyd-designed modernist home to BlackRock.
Mr Salt, credited with having a major influence on Melbourne's laneway bar culture, opened CBD venues Ferdy Durke and Section 8, as well as The B. East in Brunswick East.
The circa 1954 house at 242 Beech Road, named Bridgford House, was Boyd's most expensive project at the time, commissioned for £9,500 for shipping agent Charles Bridgford and his wife Phyllis. It was done.

Michael Martin of White Fox Real Estate said Mr Salt and Mr Duggan had been bidding against the developer when they bought the four-bedroom home in 2018.
“They bought this house as much out of fear that someone would destroy it as they did out of love for the house itself,” Martin said.
Mr Martin said Bridgford House was not heritage listed when Mr Duggan and Mr Salt bought it, but thanks to their efforts to have its historic status recognized, it is now. added.

The Robin Boyd Foundation has been managing the house as short-term accommodation on behalf of Ms Salt and Ms Duggan since January.
Mr Martin described the residence as “probably one of the last true expressions of Boyd architecture”.

The second bathroom is used by the other three bedrooms.
“Every bedroom has a door to the outside,” Martin said.
This home will be available as a short-term rental from the beginning of 2023.

The paved garden includes a fish pond, recently updated fencing and native Australian plants.
Other highlights include a 13.32KW solar power system, rainwater tank, separate laundry, double carport, and ample storage space.
