MUMBAI: BMC announced its upcoming budget on Friday. INR3,497.82 million for the education sector in the financial year 2024-25. The increase in budget allocation is 4.35% year-on-year, which is almost an increase. INR150 million, its percentage compared to the entire budget decreased by 0.33%.
The budget was submitted to Municipal Commissioner IS Chahal by Additional Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide on Friday morning. Education experts said if civil society increases the overall budget by 10%, the education budget would need to increase by the same percentage.
This year, the following regulations have been established: INR330.19 billion was paid for capital works. The BMC budget is also concerned about the upcoming dues. BMC has announced financial assistance for higher education to top 100 students from BMC schools. INR25,000 per student per year until completion of the degree or university tuition fees, whichever is higher.
Another scheme is offered by BMC. INRA one-time subsidy of 50,000 yen for preparing for entrance exams for medical and professional courses. The third scheme is offered by BMC. INR50,000 assistance for preparation of competitive exams for government jobs including Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) or Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). These schemes will also be extended to 100 sanitation worker students working in BMC who have secured a minimum of 60% in class 10 examinations. In this scheme, a BMC is assigned. INR2.81 billion.
New schemes include organic farming, open gymnasiums, procurement of grammar books, science centers in 100 schools, 54 astronomical institutes and 35 sports centres. While implementing the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from next academic year, BMC plans to strengthen the primary education sector. INR169 billion for 1,034 kindergartens run by BMC.
BMC also plans to start e-library in 25 secondary schools with internet facilities with four computers and e-library will be started in 50 primary schools during the academic year 2024-2025. INR16.3 billion was made.
Keeping in view the demand, BMC has decided to add four more CBSE schools in Shanti Nagar in Worli, Natwarlal Parekh area, Shivaji Nagar in Malwani township and Varsha Nagar in Vikhroli district. BMC has also decided to increase the number of existing CBSE school divisions.
