The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has found human remains near the spot where a student from Multimedia University in Kajiado was attacked by a hyena.
Following student protests, KWS said in a statement that its team had found the body of another person who appeared to have been attacked by a hyena.
“Unfortunately, a separate Problem Animal Management Unit (Pamu) team left at the scene found human remains at the scene, which were subsequently recovered by Kenyan police. The identity of the deceased was subsequently confirmed. , the family has filed a report.'' KWS said in a statement.
Regarding Tuesday night's attack, KWS confirmed that two people were attacked by hyenas in Rongai, adding that one of the victims was a student at Multimedia University.
“The two were seriously injured when they were attacked by a hyena at around 8pm on Monday night in Ole Kasasi area of Rongai, Kajiado district,” KWS said in a statement.

“Upon receiving the report, KWS immediately dispatched the Troubled Animal Control Unit and rushed the men to Wema Hospital in Rongai. I was referred to a hospital.”
Following the incident, Multimedia University students staged a demonstration outside the gates of the KWS workshop opposite the university on Tuesday morning.
The protests further escalated after KWS executives held an emergency meeting with the university management.
KWS said it was committed to working with students through university leaders to redouble efforts to find more hyena dens and drive them back to Nairobi National Park.
“Pamu's team immediately killed one hyena and continued work to identify all surrounding hyena nests. A veterinary team accompanying Pamu examined the hyena's carcass to determine whether it was infected with rabies or other hyenas. “We are determining whether the animal may have been infected with a zoonotic disease,” KWS said.
