In the town of Bomet, residents, mostly young people, took to the streets this morning to protest against Governor Hilary Balchok's leadership, partially paralyzing transportation and halting commerce.
Anti-riot police were forced to fire tear gas to quell angry mobs who set fires and made transport impossible along highways, including the one connecting Bomet to Narok and Bomet-Kisii.
During the unrest, some demonstrators were arrested and taken to Bomet Central Police Station for questioning.
“If the leaders we have elected do not solve our problems, we must stand up for the residents of Bomet County. We will not stop until we see change.” one of the demonstrators shouted from the back of the police car.
Residents complained of severe water shortages, poor road conditions, and difficulty in recruiting district employees.
They called for the governor's impeachment for failing to meet basic needs and pre-election promises, and called on county legislators to expedite the process of filing similar motions.
Therefore, the people of Bomet expect the governor to be impeached if there is no change.
