Screen Queensland has launched a $3 million business enterprise to help attract, develop and expand Queensland screen companies as part of the Authority's efforts to support the creation and retention of local intellectual property. A fund was launched.
Business Enterprise provides multi-year grants and practical business development support of up to $150,000 per year to emerging and existing production businesses in Queensland. Recipients will be supported to achieve measurable results based on her comprehensive and clearly articulated three-year growth strategy.

If successful, will I be guaranteed three years of funding?
At the end of each funding year, recipients are required to demonstrate how they achieved their KPIs over the past year and justify any deviations from their original business plan. Funding for up to 3 years per project.
If successful, will I have to repay the funds?
No, funds awarded under Screen Queensland's Enterprise Program are not loans. Successful applicants will receive a non-recoverable grant that does not need to be repaid if all conditions are met.
Can I apply to be introduced to a company as an individual?
No, but companies can apply to have individuals work within their organization as part of their application.
Will it be more attractive if I apply for less than the maximum amount?
The attractiveness of your application is based on whether the proposed activities are consistent with the program's goals and guidelines. Request an amount commensurate with the planned effort and resources needed.
I am not currently running a screen business, but would like to start one? Am I eligible to apply?
Eligibility is contingent on having reportable credits in the platform and genre applicable to this program. If your business is new to the screen industry, please refer to Screen Queensland's guidelines or consider seeking guidance.

Who can apply?
Activities undertaken as part of the program must be primarily based in Queensland.
Applicants must be registered and based in Queensland (at least 75% of staff are bona fide Queenslanders) and owned and managed by a Queensland-based stakeholder.
The applicant's main business activity must be related to the development and production of original screen content. You must have reportable credits in the platform and genre you are requesting support for. Screen Queensland encourages applications from businesses that develop and/or hold intellectual property in Queensland.
Applicants must provide evidence of eligibility and meet Screen Queensland's general eligibility requirements as set out in the Terms and Conditions. To determine if your business is eligible, please read our frequently asked questions.
Applicants who have previously received funding from Screen Queensland or other funding bodies (including past Enterprise or NQ Enterprise initiatives) can still apply.
This program focuses on creating original IP and excludes post-production and VFX businesses.
Supplier companies that are not directly involved in the development or production of content, such as casting agencies, transport and catering businesses, are not eligible for this funding.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander screen practitioners are encouraged to apply. How much can I apply?
Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to $150,000 per year for three years (depending on reporting requirements and milestone achievement).
In addition, successful companies will participate in a carefully selected program of training and support designed to enhance and enhance the activities being carried out by applicants.

What activities can you fund?
The program aims to help start-ups become economically viable and build capacity in domestic and global markets. We also help established companies explore innovative new ways to grow the local screen production sector through diversification and new business initiatives.
Funds can be used to support a variety of activities including, but not limited to:
- Company and business structuring
- Domestic and international strategies
- Funding and partnerships
- Investing in innovation
- Hire experts or provide consulting business services

Funded activities must be linked to a business case that makes the applicant's expected outcomes clear and explains how this relates to the program objectives.
Funds are not intended to be used for slate development. Applicants wishing to apply for development funding may do so in accordance with Screen Queensland's current development funding.
The funds are not intended to be used for corporate infrastructure costs such as office space leases or building upgrades/renovations.
How can I apply?
The application process has two stages. Stage 1 is open to all eligible applicants. Stage 2 is open to applicants who have submitted the most competitive Stage 1 application and is by invitation only.
Stage 1:
Please submit your application by 5pm (AEST) on Friday 22 March 2024 using Screen Queensland's SmartyGrants application portal. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive this within 30 minutes, please contact Screen Queensland. After submission, your application will be checked for eligibility and, if approved, will proceed to review. Submissions must include:
- A video pitch (up to 3 minutes) summarizing why your company is applying.
- Answers to each section of the SmartyGrants application form. Offline versions of questions are available, including character limits. [download here]
- Accountant Certification Business Financials for FY22 and FY23 (minimum profit and loss)
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their Stage 1 submission and whether they will be invited to participate in Stage 2 by Friday 3 May.
Stage 2:
Applicants will receive a link to complete the second stage application. He has until 5pm (AEST) on Friday 31st May. The materials submitted to Stage 2 focus on the details of the activities that will be conducted and measured during the program, and additional documentation will be provided to Stage 2 applicants.
How will my application be evaluated?
Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Strategy: Do the activities that the applicant proposes to undertake with the requested funds make strategic sense in relation to the business's existing focus? Opportunities identified by the applicant in the market. What is the purpose of the Enterprise Program?
- Feasibility: Does the proposed activity have the potential to increase the viability of the business and has the applicant explained how the activity will be sustained beyond the terms of the funding provided?
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: How does the proposed activity meaningfully contribute to promoting and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, taking into account the current state of the business and broader industry context? Do you have it?
- Capacity and Feasibility: Has the applicant identified the resources, expertise, and capabilities needed to carry out the proposed activities and how these resources and capabilities will be accessed?
- Benefits to industry: Will the proposed activities provide ongoing benefits to Queensland's production industry in the future, in line with the objectives of the Enterprise Program?
Funding conditions
Successful applicants will enter into a grant agreement with Screen Queensland. The duration of the grant agreement is 12 months, but it can be renewed for up to a further 2 years (3 years in total).
Companies are provided with 40% of the funding provided upon signing and 20% annually upon receipt of interim reports 3, 6 and 9 months after the date of declaration. These drawdown rates are a guide and are subject to change based on applicant submissions. Before the end of each 12-month period, the applicant must submit a screen presentation outlining his progress against his KPIs for the year and detailing the activities planned for his subsequent 12-month period. Must be submitted to Queensland. If deemed eligible, Screen Queensland will enter into a contract for her second or third year of funding.
