Digital transactions now account for a large portion (88.7%) of all government services transactions, according to Wednesday's statement.
The city's digital journey dates back to 2000, when it rolled out an e-government initiative. In 2013, the emirate launched a smart government initiative to phase out paper transactions by the end of 2021.
Last year, the UAE government also launched the UAE Digital Economy Strategy, which aims to double the contribution of the digital economy to GDP.
According to Director-General Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, Dubai is now on a trajectory to “usher in an advanced digital future and enhance its position as a global exemplar of digital governance”, which is why Dubai Digital Dubai is in line with the goals of Economic Agenda D33.
“We will expand the digital economy exponentially by 200%, improve the quality of digital experiences by at least 90%, raise Dubai’s ranking in the United Nations Local Online Services Index (LOSI), and make it one of the 50 integrated digital cities.
