The number of domestic tourists visiting Rajasthan has increased about 12 times in the past four years, and the footfall of foreign tourists has also increased sharply since the coronavirus-induced recession. According to the tourism department, more than 1.51 billion domestic tourists visited the state in 2020. This figure will exceed 179 billion yen in 2023.
A total of 32.44 billion domestic tourists visited Rajasthan from January 2020 to December 2023. Meanwhile, over 22.2 billion foreign tourists visited the desert state to witness its historical heritage during the same period.
“Rajasthan has become a major tourist attraction among tourists. After the corona pandemic, many domestic tourists have started visiting the state. The number of foreign tourists has also increased significantly.” said Daleep Singh Rathore, deputy director of tourism. He said.
The focus of the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party government is to make the country a leader in the tourism sector in the country.
Recent visits to the state by Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala and French President Emmanuel Macron have helped establish the state's image as a foreign destination of choice for foreign elites.
Deputy Prime Minister Diya Kumari, a former member of the Jaipur royal family and head of the tourism department, is actively holding meetings with foreign delegations to that end.
“The government is determined to transform Rajasthan into a premier tourist destination. A 100-day action plan has been given to the department officials. A comprehensive strategy needs to be developed and implemented,” Diya Kumari he said.
She said her plans include working with various departments to strengthen rail, road and air connectivity to the state.
Establishing quality basic infrastructure and improving hospitality services are also essential to this objective, she said.
Diya Kumari recently revealed the tourist numbers when she was asked for them by BJP MLA Kalicharan Saraf in the Rajasthan Assembly.
According to her reply, nearly 18 million domestic and 17 million foreign tourists visited Rajasthan in 2023.
A total of 1.51 billion domestic tourists and 4.46 billion foreign tourists visited Rajasthan in 2020.
In 2021, 2.19 billion domestic tourists and 34,806 foreign tourists will visit the state, and in 2022, 108.3 billion domestic tourists and 39,684 foreign tourists will visit the state. visited the state.
Saraf had sought annual details of domestic and foreign tourists who visited the state from January 2020 to December 2023.
The state's hotel association has been upbeat since the French president's visit to Jaipur, believing the visit will open up new opportunities.
