According to a statement released on Sunday, August 13, the Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has created a new unified Visa card for use in government services.
The new cards are still in the first phase and have started to be issued in Port Said province, where the government plans to issue them free of charge to residents. Egyptians over the age of 16 are eligible to claim it.
According to the ministry's announcement,[the card] It aims to consolidate the package of services provided to citizens into one card and complement the digital transformation system within the government's keen framework to build a digital economy. ”
Another goal is to “eradicate corruption” by digitizing services.
In the first stage, the card aims to simplify the process of accessing subsidized goods services, medical insurance and electronic payment services. More services will be implemented in later stages of the card.
This project is the result of a collaboration between the Department of Supply and Internal Trade, the Department of Communications and Internet Technology, and the National Health Insurance Agency. It was also developed in collaboration with Visa, Inc.
To request a uniform card, each family parent will receive a text message specifying the post office or auxiliary service to visit to receive the card.
Each citizen receiving the card will also open a postal account after being provided with a national ID and mobile phone number.
Plans are underway to issue the card in other prefectures, and more services are expected to be added as the card develops.
