The survey also revealed that the gross enrollment ratio (GER) rose from 23.7 in 2014-15 to 28.4 in 2021-22. According to the study, the GER for women increased from 22.9 in 2014-15 to 28.5 in 2021-22.
The Ministry of Education, Government of India on Thursday released the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2021-2022. The ministry has been implementing AISHE since 2011, which covers all higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country registered with AISHE, providing detailed information on various parameters such as student enrollment, teachers, and infrastructure information. are collecting.
“Total enrollment in higher education increased from 4.14 billion in 2020-21 to nearly 4.33 billion in 2021-22. Enrollments increased from 3.42 billion in 2014-15. (26.5%), an increase of approximately 9.1 million people.” The ministry said in a statement citing the findings.
According to the study, female enrollment in higher education jumped from 1.57 billion in 2014-15 to 2.07 billion in 2021-22.
On the other hand, the number of admissions in the SC student category in 2021-22 stood at 66.23 million (44 per cent increase) as against 46.07 million in 2014-15. At the same time, the enrollment of women students in SC increased from 29.01 million in 2020-21 and 21.02 million in 2014-15 to 31.71 million in 2021-22.
The enrollment of ST and OBC students increased to 27.1 million and 1.63 billion respectively in 2021-22.
According to the survey, the total number of registered university/university level educational institutions is 1,168, with 45,473 and 12,002 universities and independent educational institutions respectively.
In terms of undergraduate level fields in AISHE 2021-22, the number of admissions was highest in liberal arts (34.2%), followed by science (14.8%), commerce (13.3%), and engineering/technology (11.8%).
Among the graduate level streams in AISHE 2021-22, the most students are enrolled in social sciences (21.1%), followed by sciences (14.7%).
The number of doctoral degree enrollees increased by 81.2% to 212,000 in 2021-22, compared to 1.17 million in 2014-2015.
The total number of faculty and staff in 2021-22 is 1,598,000, of which approximately 56.6% are men and 43.4% are women.
The number of female faculty members is also increasing.
According to the study, there will be 694,000 female teachers in 2021-22, an increase of 22% compared to 2014-15.
Additionally, the number of women per 100 male teachers improved slightly, from 75 in 2020-21 to 77 in 2021-22.
