JEREB (February 8): Negeri Sembilan rice products will be sold this year through a partnership with rice manufacturing companies in Selangor, said Datuk Seri from the State Agriculture, Food Security and Livelihood Committee. – Chairman Jalaluddin Alias said.
He said the paddy collection center in Merang, Kualapira, which began operations on Wednesday, will produce about 3,100 tonnes of rice over two seasons.
“During discussions with 49 farmers along with the company appointed to purchase all the paddy in the state, the state government and the company have agreed that the paddy will be processed, tagged and then sent to factories for marketing. An agreement has been reached between the parties.
“As a result of our discussions with the company, we will increase the rice supply to meet the state's demand by about 20 to 40 tonnes per year,” Jalaluddin said at a meeting at the Sungai Rui constituency community service center here on Thursday. He told reporters at the Agro Madani Sale.
At the same time, he said the state government is working to increase the paddy cultivation area in the state from 1,100 hectares to 1,500 hectares from this year.
Meanwhile, it said Thursday's Agro Madani Sale will offer discounts of up to 40%.
“Local rice is sold at RM20 for 10kg, while the market price is RM26. [followed by] 1kg of meat costs RM30, chicken costs RM10, vegetables are free and fruits are half price,” he added.
