Governor Janet Mills today awarded 2023 Excellence in Business Awards to four Maine companies. The awards were presented at a ceremony at Brain House that was postponed from late December.
Established in 1991 by former Governor McKernan, this prestigious annual award recognizes Maine businesses that demonstrate high levels of commitment to their communities, employees, and exemplary performance in manufacturing and service industries. , has been praised.

Elmet Technologies, Heritage Industry Award: With a heritage stretching back 94 years, Elmet Technologies is the last and only 100% American-owned and operated fully integrated manufacturer of pure molybdenum and tungsten products. Serving a wide range of markets, the company operates out of more than 210,000 square feet of manufacturing space at its headquarters in Lewiston, Maine. Founded in 1929 as the American Electro Metal Corporation, Elmet Technologies was known for decades as a leading manufacturer of light bulb filaments, producing more than 1 billion filaments annually. Today, the company manufactures products such as molded parts that stabilize airplane wings, high-precision parts for satellite applications, and collimators and electrodes for CT scanning equipment.
