Local brewery Hijinx Taproom will hold its grand opening at noon Saturday at Sports Factory, an indoor sports training facility in the Lehigh Valley.
The original standalone store at 905 Harrison St. in Allentown isn't going anywhere, said owner and brewmaster Kurt Keck. In fact, HiJinx's newest spot will offer many of the same beers customers have come to love.
“This is an extension of what we're doing on Harrison Street and just brings a fun atmosphere,” Keck said.
The taproom, located on the grounds of the Sports Factory at 6616 Rappsville Road in Upper Macungie Township, will join the roster of adult sports leagues, Keck said.
“We're also going to have some events, including a cornhole league on Thursday for the grand opening,” he said.
Keck also organizes monthly movie nights at this location.
Keck said patrons looking to pair drinks with snacks or meals can do so. All Star Grill, his full-service kitchen already located at Sports Factory, will serve customers at his HiJinx. How about beer, hamburgers, and soccer? Check, check, and check.
As for the beer being served, Keck said they'll be bringing in a lot of the same beer from the Harrison Street location.
“Maybe we'll make a sports-related beer,” he said. This year, Keck hopes to create a disc golf-themed beer in conjunction with disc golf training. “It's going to be a seminar-like atmosphere, and maybe a professional disc golfer will come and give a demonstration.” Keck also wants to start a darts league (the taproom itself plans to provide digital his darts to players to get their feet wet before the actual ones).
Although the opening was a bit rocky — Keck said they dealt with frozen pipes and splashes from the sprinkler system — HiJinx's owner and brewer is excited about the combination of beer and sports.
“It's going to be a lot of fun,” he said.
