The Minnesota Vikings could be one of the teams interested in trading for a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
The Vikings, who currently hold the No. 11 draft pick, have uncertainty regarding quarterback Kirk Cousins, which could lead to them trying to step up and enter a draft class of talented quarterbacks. Fowler thinks it's possible.
“League officials are also keeping an eye on the 11th-ranked Minnesota Vikings,” Fowler wrote. “They did a lot of QB homework last offseason, and with free agent Kirk Cousins' future in Minnesota uncertain, they could end up targeting the top pick in the draft. But , it will cost GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah a lot of money to move up from No. 11 to the top three in draft capital. ”
Cousins will become a free agent in March, but it's unclear whether the veteran will return to Minnesota or take his talents elsewhere. If he leaves, the Vikings could look to fill his spot in the draft.
The 2024 NFL Draft will feature several top quarterbacks. According to Fowler, the Chicago Bears are expected to take USC quarterback Caleb Williams, the No. 4 player on Bleacher Report's 2024 NFL Draft Big Board, with the No. 1 overall pick. In addition to Williams, the draft also includes North Carolina's Drake Maye, the No. 2 player on B/R's big board, and Jayden Daniels, No. 24 on B/R's big board.
Williams, Maye, and Daniels are just a few of the many talented quarterbacks available in this year's draft, and the Vikings could have several options if they choose to draft.
If Minnesota wants Cousins to stay, they may have to pay a high asking price. The quarterback is reportedly seeking a contract worth $90 million through the 2025 season, but the Vikings may not be willing to pay given Cousin's age of 35.
