Intel said the project began in 2021 and was part of a multibillion-dollar investment. It is said to be the only factory in Japan that manufactures this groundbreaking technology. “This capability extends far beyond Intel, and certainly far beyond New Mexico,” said Keevan Esfarjani, Intel's executive vice president and chief global operations officer.
Intel says this is a milestone and sets it apart from other manufacturers. The company announced a new factory called Fab 9 that can create so-called advanced packaging technologies that basically combine multiple chips into one unit. “We plan to integrate many chips into one package, for example microprocessors, memory, system chips, and package all of these together,” Esfarjani said. Masu.
Intel says the technology provides advanced artificial intelligence applications for its PC and server products. The factory will allow Intel to develop its entire technology in-house, eliminating its dependence on offshore factories. “It's very important to the supply chain and it's very important to a lot of the disruptions that we continue to see, whether it's due to logistics, geopolitics or other reasons,” Esfarjani said. says.
The project is part of a $3.5 billion investment starting in 2021 that will allow Intel to hire and continue to hire more than 700 additional employees. Intel says this milestone will have lasting economic impact. “And what better place to do it than here in New Mexico, in our business where we have built our tradition,” Esfajani said.
In addition to New Mexico, Intel said it is making major investments totaling $120 billion in locations in Ohio, Arizona and Oregon. Intel said it is still looking for hundreds of jobs in Rio Rancho, including engineering and technician roles.
