Joseph 'Jowi' Irungu was found guilty today, February 9, of murdering businessman Monica Kimani in Nairobi in 2018.
Meanwhile, his ex-girlfriend, media personality Jacques Maribe, was acquitted of murdering the businessman.
He was found guilty of murder in violation of Articles 203 and 204 of the Penal Code on which he was jointly charged.
Maribe and Jowi are jointly accused of committing the crime on the night of September 19, 2018, at Ramulia Gardens Apartments in Nairobi's middle-income residential area, Kilimani.
Twelve hours before the final verdict, Jowi, a turned gospel artiste, shared a post on his Instagram page.
He posted a message inspired by brenden_praise's song about God's unwavering consistency in every situation, saying:
“God, when I'm lost, I remember what you did. I know I can do it again, or you'll remain the same.”
Speaking to the media shortly after his acquittal in the murder case of businessman Monica Kimani, Maribe quoted a verse from John 8:32: “Read John 8:32 in the Bible. The truth will set you free.”
Her father, Maribe Mwangi, acknowledged to reporters the difficult journey they had endured.
“On behalf of the Maribe family, we express our gratitude to God. It has been an emotional journey, but as our lawyer said, we never doubted the outcome.” he stated.
He also thanked his defense team led by attorney Katwa Kigen, his friends and some members of the media, some of whom were initially hostile, for their outstanding efforts.
Maribe's mother stressed the importance of seeking the truth and not rushing to believe false narratives.
“I have been praying for my daughter spiritually. God has been leading us emotionally the entire time,” she added.
Attorney Katwa Kigen thanked God for the five-year journey and praised the judge for carefully examining the details of the case.
He maintained Maribe's innocence, saying: She was not at the scene and did not cause any harm. ”
In the end, Kigen emphasized the importance of the victory and thanked God.
