The Kenya National Roads Authority (KENHA) on Saturday announced the closure of part of Mombasa Road for eight days, affecting all motorists travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa and vice versa.
KENHA in a public notice stated that the roads affected are Mombasa Road (A8), Mombasa bound lane at Lake Oil Petrol Station, 4km before Malili Town on the way to Mombasa.
KENHA Executive Director, Engineer Kungu Ndungu, revealed that the road closure will commence at midnight on Saturday, June 15, and will reopen at 6am on Sunday, June 23.

KENHA said the closure was to allow for maintenance work on the section of highway. Only one lane would be closed, while the other would remain open.
“During the closure of the Nairobi-bound lanes, motorists travelling to Nairobi will be advised to take a detour as Mombasa-bound traffic will continue to operate normally,” the notice said.
Additionally, as the Mombasa-bound lanes are undergoing repairs, all drivers heading towards Mombasa will be diverted to the Nairobi-bound lanes, helping to ease traffic on the congested road.
While road repairs are being carried out, KENHA urges all motorists planning to use the affected section to approach the affected areas with caution to avoid accidents.
Motorists are also asked to follow the instructions of police and traffic officers at the scene and obey all posted traffic signs and directions.
“The Authority remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage for economic prosperity,” the notice reads in part.
Earlier this week, a portion of Mombasa Road was closed from June 13 to June 16 as maintenance work began.
The affected section was near Katani Road junction along the lane towards Mombasa Road.
The four-day road closure was to allow for preparations for foundation work on a mid-span footbridge over the busy highway.
