NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan. 29 – Kenya and the United States on Monday underscored their mutual dedication to strengthening bilateral trade and investment.
Areas of focus include agriculture, regulatory practices, and worker rights and protections.
This commitment was underlined at a meeting where negotiating teams from both sides of the Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership met to assess progress in ongoing negotiations.
A team led by Rebecca Miano, Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry, and Meg Whitman, U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, along with Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudabadi, convened to provide an update on the partnership's progress.
“Our goals are to promote economic prosperity, ensure security, protect human rights, and uphold democratic principles. These negotiations are aimed at a more comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership between our two countries. “This is an important step,” Miano said.
Mr. Miano said the leaders recognized the importance of fostering a strong partnership that goes beyond economic considerations and emphasized Kenya's eagerness to strengthen its relationship with the United States.
Both sides emphasized their commitment to mutual prosperity, security, protection of human rights, and promotion of democratic values.
“The ongoing negotiations demonstrate Kenya and the United States' dedication to building a strategic alliance that addresses a wide range of social services,” Miano said.
Mr. Miano said the growing partnership between Kenya and the United States positions it to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
“The anticipated outcomes go beyond the immediate economic impact and focus on contributing to regional stability and global prosperity,” she said.
The discussions reflected a shared vision for partnership that goes beyond economic considerations and emphasized a commitment to broader regional stability and global prosperity.
Notably, Alfred K. Ombud, the State Department's principal trade secretary, played a key role in leading Kenya's negotiating team, which included representatives from various government agencies.
