Kiambu Assembly Speaker elated after being ranked best in central Kenya county

• Kiambu County Speaker Charles Thiong'o said the recognition was a great achievement considering his council is the second largest in the country.

Two days ago, Kiambu County Chairman Charles Thiong'o was named the best County Council Chairman in the Central Kenya region by Kenya Poll rankings.

Mr Thiong'o was elated to receive the recognition, saying it was a great achievement considering Kiambu County Council is the second largest council in the country with 86 MCAs.

Mr Thiong'o took to social media to dedicate the victory to Kiambu County Council members, staff and the people of the county in general.

“Kiambu County Council will continue to play its legislative, representative and supervisory roles to ensure that the people of the county receive optimal services from the county government,” Thiong'o said.

In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.keThiong'o, who is also an attorney, listed some of the county bills he has overseen that he is proud of.

The District Fund Bill (Revenue Allocation Bill 2023) guarantees each of the 60 districts a minimum amount of CDF equivalent development funding of Ksh 10 million.

Kiambu Revenue Authority Bill 2023 established the Kiambu Revenue Authority to enhance revenue collection on par with the Kenya Revenue Authority. This will allow county governments to accelerate development.

Mr Thiong'o also oversaw the development of the Kiambu Disability Livelihoods Bill 2024. This is to ensure that the welfare of persons with disabilities is met, including ensuring that persons with disabilities have access to employment and business opportunities and that all buildings and facilities are secure. The aim is to establish a full-fledged department within an administrative agency. Friendly to people with disabilities.

The lawyer is also proud of the Kiambu Community Health Promoters (CHP) Bill 2024, which will ensure the welfare of CHPs in the county is met, including ensuring absorption into the County Public Service Commission .

Why Kiambu County Council is thriving

When asked about the difference between Kiambu Council and other districts, the University of Nairobi graduate said that it has a harmonious and cooperative relationship with the district executive, while also playing a role in monitoring development so that conflicts do not affect it. I answered that I was able to do it.

The Chairperson also said there is a focus on training and capacity building of members so that they can effectively fulfill their legislative, representative and supervisory roles.

“We have strengthened public participation and stakeholder engagement in the county to ensure the involvement of Kiambu voters in the legislative process,” Thiong’o said.

Regarding his future plans after being selected as Best Speaker, Thiong'o said he is focused on communicating his mission to the people of Kiambu.

However, he hinted at running for the Githunguri constituency in 2027.

“My only focus now is to serve as Kiambu County Chairman until my term ends in 2027. At the end of my term, the people of Kiambu County will evaluate our work and leave us with any other responsibilities. will decide.”

I am from Githunguri constituency and participated in the 2022 UDA candidate election. If the people of Githunguri need my services in the future, we will sit together and take a common stand because I have a strong passion for serving the people.” Thiongo.

Apart from his speaking role, Thiong’o holds a Master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from the University of Nairobi.

He plans to enroll in a doctoral program in law in September.

Congressman Nishi Mugirango elected as the best lawmaker

West Mugirango Member of Parliament (MP) Stephen Mogaka is overjoyed to have been named the most outstanding MP in the vast Nyanza region.
