
All state officials in charge of Kirinyaga County area where 23 people and 20 others went blind after consuming illegal beer have been recalled.

Mr Kindiki said this included senior law enforcement officers and national government enforcement officers who worked and were in charge of Kangai village in Mwea East.
“Government has recalled senior officials of law enforcement agencies and the National Government Administration who may have been involved in the recent loss of life due to the consumption of illegal toxic beer in Kirinyaga County, Central Region, due to their misconduct or misconduct,” Kindiki said. he said.
The CS said the transfer took place immediately and an investigation into the incident had begun.
He added: “Relevant agencies are directed to immediately launch an investigation so that appropriate administrative action can be taken against those found guilty.”
The bar owner who obtained the beer from John Murithi Kalaya was arraigned in court and directed to be detained for 20 days while police complete their investigation.
He is currently detained at Kiamasiri police station and the case will be mentioned on March 7, 2024.
Local residents took matters into their own hands and set the bar on fire.
