EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — The Military Childhood Education Coalition (MCEC), the national champion of Purple Star Schools, will conduct training and training in the Fort Bliss area from January 31st to February 1st, 2024 to support schools. Hold an education summit. Supporting the needs of people in highly mobile and unique military-connected communities.
This is a free event where attendees will participate in sessions that provide important learning opportunities to support Purple Star responses in their schools and districts. Sessions are designed both to assist those pursuing the designation and to support current Purple Star partners in maintaining their designation.
For education professionals, MCEC will be offering a module on January 31 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Supporting Military Children Through School Transition – Addressing Military Children with Basic and Special Needs. These sessions will be held in the Paso Del Norte Room of the Region 19 Educational Service Center in El Paso.
For families, a fun evening is planned for MCEC's Tell Me A Story (TMAS) event, which will be held at the Centennial Banquet and Conference Center in Fort Bliss on January 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.Book introductionThe world needs more purple people, TMAS uses literature and stories in ways that foster resilience, strong connections with peers and parents, and a sense of pride and accomplishment. Each participating family will receive a copy of the book to take home.
MCEC will be offering Student 2 Student® (S2S) training for K-12 schools on February 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Paso del Norte Room of the Region 19 Educational Services Center. We will implement it. This session will focus on strengthening student-led programs that connect military and civilian students to welcome new students, create a positive environment, support academic excellence, and ease the transition.
