In the pilot mode, up to 700 mentee teachers have registered to seek training on the NMM portal. “Out of the 60 mentor teachers assigned to provide guidance in these areas, at least 30 are Padma awardees. The mission is being rolled out in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 and will help teachers enhance their knowledge. The NMM is motivated to provide professional and personal support to school teachers across the country and ensure continuous professional development as envisaged in para 15.11 of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). After the mission was found listed in the Union Budget for 2021-22 and approved by the Ministry of Education, NCTE utilized Rs 1.28 billion for building digital infrastructure to support the mission. An additional Rs 2,000 crore was spent to carry out the mission in pilot mode in 2022-23. In July last year, NCTE also prepared a draft document called National Mission for Mentoring – Blue Book, which is awaiting MoE approval. “If approved, this mission can be rolled out across the country,” said an NCTE official.
The pilot was launched in July 2022 in 30 selected central schools – 15 Kendriya Vidyalayas, 10 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and 5 CBSE schools across the country.
“Although a budget of Rs 1.56 billion has been allocated for 2023-24, this allocation has not been fully utilized and may spill over into the next financial year,” NCTE officials said. Stated.
