According to Manitoba Auction Mart's latest report, weekly average prices for feeder steers ranged from $278.75 per CWT in the 901-plus pound category to $438.91 per CWT in the 401-500 pound category.
Feeder heifer prices ranged from $241.33 per CWT in the 900+ pound category to $377.97 per CWT in the 401-500 pound category.
D1-D2 slaughter cattle sold for an average price of $122.28 per CWT and D3 cattle sold for $105.80 per CWT.
In Saskatchewan, 12,676 head of Saskatchewan feeder cattle were marketed in the week ending February 2nd, nearly double the 6,603 head of feeder cattle marketed the week before. It has doubled.
The Department of Agriculture's most recent Cattle Marketing Report noted that there was limited data available for feeder steers, with only two weight categories reported.
The average price for the 400-500 pound steer category was $423.25 per CWT, while the average price for the 500-600 pound steer category was $401.67 per CWT.
Saskatchewan's 750-pound feeder steer base could not be calculated as local prices were not reported.
Feeder heifer prices ranged from $377 per CWT in the 400-500 pound weight category to $274.50 per CWT in the 800-plus pound weight category.
The 500-600 pound heifer category increased $11.16 per week for a weekly average of $342.58.
The Canfax price for Alberta steers for the week ending February 2 was $217.50 per CWT.
This is down from the last Alberta steer price set on Jan. 12, which was $218.75/CWT, the report said.
Statistics show this is higher than the price established for the same week last year, which was $191.61 per cwt.
Alberta beef prices were mixed for the week ending Feb. 2.
The average price for D2 slaughter cattle was $130.20 per CWT, an increase of $2.87 per CWT from the previous week.
In contrast, D3 slaughter beef prices were down $3.35 per CWT from the previous week to average $111.13 per CWT.
Rail prices in Alberta now range from $255 to $260 per CWT, an increase of $5 at each end from last week.
