Qatar is working towards achieving its goal of welcoming 6 million tourists by 2030, under a national strategy to increase the sector's contribution to gross domestic product from 7% to 12%.
Al Khalji cited Qatar's tourism milestones, with the country hosting 702,800 tourists in January alone, with the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 attracting fans from all over the world. said.
The extension of the Haya Card, which was initially introduced as a fan visa during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has benefited tourists visiting Qatar for the Asian Cup.
QNA said the large number of tourists came after Qatar successfully ended 2023 by welcoming more than 4 million tourists.
Last month, the third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, the final stage in achieving the goals of Qatar's National Vision 2030, was announced, with a focus on tourism.
“The aforementioned strategy identified tourism as a key sector among the combination of economic diversification factors aimed at achieving sustainable economic growth,” Al Khalji said.
Qatar Tourism Authority is also working on developing the areas of meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions to further achieve its goals in the tourism sector.
Participating in international trade exhibitions, establishing a hotline for tourists and building electronic services to streamline the viewing of calendar events are part of the tourism sector's strategy.
