It has been the subject of much speculation among the residents of Colonel Wright Gardens for over 30 years.
But now, for the first time in 35 years, the mystery of what lies behind the door at 37 Rozells Ave has been solved and the heritage-listed property is on the market.
The man's mansion, built in 1926 and known as Parnella, has long been considered haunted by local residents, who have wondered why living humans frequent the property, especially around Halloween. Many stories have been told about why it was not seen.
The fact that the property always seemed furnished and with a car in the driveway didn't help either.

Speculation was put to rest when sales agents Chris and Sonya Dunbar of Turner Real Estate revealed that the property belonged to the deceased.
“The property had been a beloved family home for decades, but after her mother passed away, her adult daughter couldn't bear to sell it,” Dunbar said.
“Unfortunately, over the years, the house has fallen into severe disrepair.

“Over the years, damage has been caused by lack of maintenance, the natural environment and perhaps also by squatters.
“But beyond the turmoil, much of this home's original charm and heritage features are still there, ready for someone with a vision and a love of suburban history to bring it back to life for another group of people.” It is easy to see that the coming century is in the making.”

Dunbar said the house had been stripped of all furniture for sale and had attracted a lot of interest from buyers and curious neighbors during the first three inspections.
“We've had close to 80 groups participate so far, and many of them are neighbors who said, 'Hey, let's go see a haunted house!'” she said.
“But as well as developers, we also had first-time buyers who wanted to get into the area.”

Mr Dunbar said the property posed the ultimate renovation challenge for the buyers as the house had been neglected for many years.
Many of the floorboards have been eaten away by termites, and many of the ceilings in the home's five main rooms have caved in.
Prospective buyers will also face the challenges of developing a home located in a state heritage-listed suburb.

“The entire suburb is state heritage listed so demolishing the building is not an option,” Ms Dunbar said.
“The City Council has suggested to us that it is not a question of whether or not preserving a home or building project is prohibitively expensive, but that in any case, it is always important to restore it at all costs. Did.”

As it stands, the house has five main rooms, three of which have their original fireplaces.
A family bathroom and open plan dining and kitchen area are located to the rear, while a detached garage and shed complete the 702sqm block.
“It's essentially the worst house on the best street,” Dunbar said.
“There's a lot of potential to find the right buyer here.”
The property will be auctioned at noon on February 3rd.
According to the latest data from PropTrack, the median home price in Colonel Wright Gardens is $1.25 million.
