An internationally recognized Sydney home that looks like a cross between a Hobbit house and a Flintstones house is going up for auction this month, with an old guide price of $2.25 million.
The Hollander House was built in the late 1960s by architect David Hollander and is constructed of hand-formed ferrocement in a free-form design. The interior is hand-crafted, and the low-slung home sits lightly on a large Newport block with expansive ocean views.

Graphic design studio owner Peter Owen and his wife, Michelle, purchased the Hollander House in 2015 for $1.4 million and set out to improve the home without losing sight of its quirky, imaginative design. Now he has three decks and balconies, a skylight, and a contemporary marble island kitchen with a walk-in pantry.
Laura Mears, from McGrath Pittwater, said the rooms were visually connected but had privacy, and the acoustics and insulation were excellent.
