The former Jiffy South factory on East Main Street behind the Salem military base has been converted into a large indoor storage facility.
Karmi-based Complete Storage purchased the building and installed 90 separate indoor storage units, located within the larger building. The facility that last housed the purple elephant is scheduled to open in early February. The Salem facility will be the company's 11th facility.
Complete Storage already has a facility at 326 South Locust in Centralia that includes a warehouse used for rental purposes, and two area companies are currently using the space. There are a total of 20 indoor units and 780 outdoor units, all with locked gates, security cameras and staffed by company personnel during the week.
Complete Storage Holly Shepherd's operations manager says they strive to provide a safe and clean space for people to store their belongings. She notes that the Salem unit could serve a larger area than the city, as the Centralia unit is fully occupied.
The company was founded by Josh and Megan Harms of Carmi and has grown significantly in a relatively short period of time. Information about the units is available by calling (618) 384-0023 or online at completestorage.com.
In addition to Centralia and Salem, Complete Storage has locations in Benton, Brookport, Duquan, Grayville, Herrin, Nashville, Vallier, and West Frankfort.
