Tommy Pham He is one of the better outfielders still on the open market. With spring training just weeks away, the 10-year MLB veteran is attracting interest from several teams.
Juan Toribio of MLB.com Tweet More than eight clubs are said to be in contact with Fam's camp. Jon Heyman of the New York Post suggests the Red Sox have some interest. Boston chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said last month that the team was open to adding a right-handed outfielder and said it was a natural fit.
Pham, 36, is running for office. He is coming off a productive year between the Mets and the eventual National League champion Diamondbacks. Pham hit 16 home runs with a combined batting line of .256/.328/.446 through 481 at-bats during the regular season. He recorded 22 stolen bases in 25 attempts, and his walk and strikeout rates were slightly better than average (9.8% and 22%, respectively). He made hard contact (speeds over 95 mph) on nearly half of his batted balls.
During Arizona's surprising run to the Fall Classic, Pham hit .279/.297/.475 with three home runs in 16 postseason games. He had a solid finish to his most productive season since 2019. He combined a balanced performance at the plate with league-average fielding in just over 500 innings as a left fielder.
This performance should allow Pham to secure an even more decent salary with at least a one-year deal, although his age may not be enough for a multi-year deal. He was signed to a one-year deal in each of the past two offseasons. He has $7.5 million guaranteed with the Reds through 2022 and signed a $6 million contract with the Mets last winter. His camp should aim to beat those numbers, presenting a better platform than either of his past two free agency outings.
Cincinnati released Pham to the Red Sox at the deadline, and Pham finished his 22nd season in Boston. The Sox have since changed front office leaders, but manager Alex Cora and many of the team members know Pham well from his previous tenures.Boston was replaced tyler o'neal for Alex Verdugo this offseason.O'Neill joins Masanao Yoshida, Jaren Duran, Rob Refsnyder and young players Wylya Abreu and Sedan Raffaella In the outfield mix.
