Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti advised women seeking political leadership to be prepared to fight for their space in male-dominated fields.
In a speech to female leaders yesterday, Ms. Vaviña pointed out that women still face major challenges navigating the male-dominated political realm.
Citing her own very difficult political journey, she pointed out that thanks to mentorship and globalization, more and more women are achieving major milestones in political leadership.
She said the main drawbacks to women's flourishing in politics, such as gender stereotypes, cultural factors, poverty, inadequate education and lack of exposure, are being more effectively addressed.
“Never apologize for being a powerful woman. Every time a woman stands up for herself, I stand up for all women. Be confident wherever you are. Confident Women are beautiful women,” Vavinia told the delegation.
Machakos County Mayor said that empowering women to take on leadership roles is likely to yield more social benefits.
“Research shows that when we empower women in leadership, everyone benefits through increased productivity, greater collaboration, and greater equity,” she said.
