Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has started distributing bins to the sub-counties in a bid for a cleaner and greener environment.
He said the move was part of a broader effort to instill a culture of environmental responsibility among residents.
“These bins, which include skips, single bins and triple bins for separating waste, demonstrate our commitment to responsible waste management in Kiambu,” Wamatangi said.
He said county environmental officers are empowered to educate the public about waste separation.
The triple bins are color-coded for easy identification: blue for plastics, red for non-recyclable waste and green for organic waste.
Kiamwangi MCA Kung'u Smart called on residents to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.
“The Kiambu County Administration is responsible for collecting garbage, but it is our duty to keep the environment we live in clean and free of garbage,” he said.
Present during the distribution were MCAs led by Environment and Waste Management Officer David Kuria, Chief Executive Jennifer Muchoki and Majority Leader Godfrey Mucheke.
Others included Andrew Kimani, director of environment and waste management, Monica Kingori, assistant director of waste management, and Peter Okoth, assistant director of environment.
