The NBA trade deadline is just days away, and the Warriors are expected to make some moves.
It's clear Golden State, which ranks 12th in the Western Conference with a 19-24 record, needs change, but what that change will look like is less clear. However, The Athletic's Shams Charania provided some clarity regarding the Warriors' trade deadline, which is coming up on Monday morning.
“The Warriors are on the other end of the spectrum. They've lost six of eight games,” Charania said on FanDuel's “Run It Back.” “We've talked about it. Everyone is at the table except Stephen Curry. So, realistically, Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podzemski, those are the two guys that they think highly of. ” [and] They want long-term storage.they see [them] As part of the core moving forward.
“They're going to call Andrew Wiggins, they're going to call Chris Paul, and they're going to get some interest in a player like Klay Thompson. I think it's a very open conversation for the Warriors. They're going to have an open mind. It has to be, “The team that's five games under .500 is 12th. So we'll see if there's any movement in the next 10 days.''
Wiggins and Paul have been linked to various trade rumors in recent weeks, but Thompson's inclusion may come as a surprise to some.
Thompson played his entire NBA career with the Warriors, and has publicly stated that he wants to retire with the Warriors, who selected him with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
Splash Bro got off to a shaky start to the season, but has responded by showing glimpses of his old self in recent games. The 33-year-old played in 42 games, averaging 17.6 points, 42.1 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from 3-point range, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
Meanwhile, Wiggins' early-season struggles haven't completely gone away. Wiggins averaged 12.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists on 43.4 percent shooting from the field and 31 percent from deep in 39 games, averaging the lowest averages of his career across the board.
His struggles resulted in him losing his spot in the starting lineup at one point in the season, as Warriors coach Steve Kerr tried different lineups to find a solution.
The Warriors have been playing the better basketball as a team, but they have trailed in close games and let too many leads slip away.
For now, this is all just speculation, but if the Warriors want to return to the NBA playoffs, they will have to make some major adjustments. And the clock is ticking.
