Murray's absence fuels trade speculation
Is this a sign that a Dejounte Murray deal is imminent?
With less than 24 hours until the trade deadline, Murray was added late to the injury report for the Atlanta Hawks' game against the Boston Celtics and was ultimately sidelined due to lower back tightness.
Murray is arguably the biggest name on the market, with a number of teams interested in acquiring the star guard, including the Lakers, Knicks, Spurs, Nets, Bucks, Jazz and Pistons.
According to Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer, the Pelicans can be added to that list of suitors. He said New Orleans and the Hawks are in talks over Murray but are not “particularly close to the finish line.”
This follows NBA insider Chris Haynes labeling New Orleans a “sleeper team” for Murray.

Jazz emerges as Brown's suitor
The Utah Jazz are reportedly in the hunt for Bruce Brown.
That's according to Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer, who reports that Utah is “another team to consider as a strong possibility” for the Denver Nuggets' 2023 champion.
Fisher reports that the teams have discussed a deal that would send Utah's Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji to Toronto in exchange for Brown. He added that the Raptors hope to return Brown to the first round, although the attached draft capital is unknown at this time.
Brown signed a two-year, $45 million (A$68 million) deal with Indiana in free agency and was traded to Toronto for Pascal Siakam last month, with the intention of re-signing at the deadline.
The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are also believed to be considering acquiring the 27-year-old.
Third trade completed by Wolves Add Morris
It's not even deadline day yet, but a third move was made on Thursday (both AEDT), with the Minnesota Timberwolves acquiring Pistons guard Monte Morris.
NBA insider Shams Charania first reported the deal, which sees Morris join the Timberwolves in exchange for Shake Milton, Troy Brown Jr., and a 2020 second-round pick.
Minnesota, which ranks third in the Western Conference with a 35-16 record, was actively searching for a more reliable backup point guard to play behind Mike Conley.
Morris, who was drafted by Tim Connelly to Denver in 2017 and played a key role on Mike Marrone's Nuggets team, brings valuable playoff experience to Chris Finch's team.
Two years ago, Morris was traded from Denver to Washington along with Will Barton in a deal that saw the Nuggets acquire Kentavious-Caldwell-Pope and the Pistons acquire Morris a year later.
The 28-year-old has battled injuries in recent days, playing in just six games this season. Morris is in the final year of a three-season, $27 million contract and will become a free agent after this campaign.
Kerr opens up trade position for Warriors
Warriors coach Steve Kerr acknowledged that a trade is unlikely before the deadline.
Golden State currently sits in 11th place in the West (22 wins, 25 losses) and is outside of the play-in range, leading to speculation that he was prompted to move.
But Mr Kerr insisted that was unlikely.
NBA Contender Pulls the Trigger
The Boston Celtics, a powerhouse in the Eastern Conference, have made a move to add depth to their frontcourt by trading for Memphis Grizzlies big man Xavier Tillman.
Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer reports that the Celtics sent the Grizzlies a 2027 second-round pick, a 2030 second-round pick, and Lamar Stevens.
Tillman is averaging solid numbers for Memphis this season, averaging 6.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
He will bring much-needed depth to the Celtics, who have the best record in the league.
LeBron raises his eyebrows like the ticking of a clock.
The Lakers have been quiet leading up to the trade deadline, and this report shows why.
Los Angeles superstar LeBron James posted a not-so-subtle hourglass emoji last week, making it clear that his team needs upgrades this season.
But now, according to CBC Sports' Bill Reiter, the Lakers believe they have a chance to land superstar All-Star Donovan Mitchell in the offseason.
That way, the Lakers won't be able to trade away key players to help them make the playoffs or win a title this season. Such a direction would also conflict with LeBron's schedule, which requires him to win now as he approaches his 40th birthday.
Mitchell has been linked with a move from Cleveland, but the Cavaliers are 14-1 in their last 15 games and sit in second place in the East. If he makes it through the playoffs, the Cavaliers will have a better chance of signing him to an extension.
The Knicks have always been linked to Mitchell and have a slew of picks to offer to the Cavaliers, creating an additional obstacle to a Lakers move.
