The host as leaders Kenya Police Bullets take on champions Vihiga Queens in the much-awaited summit clash of the Football Kenya Federation Women's Premier League (FKF-WPL) at Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi on Saturday. This is the question.
With eight games left until the end of the season, Bullets and Vihiga know this game could decide their fate for this year's title.
However, this is not Vihiga's first time competing for the title.
Last season, they made it to the final three games of the campaign before leading Gaspo Women to the title.
Boniface Nyamnyam's Charge won the league with 55 points, seven points ahead of Gaspo.
With Gaspo struggling and sitting at the bottom of the table with just five points after 11 games, Police (formerly of Tika Queens) has emerged as the main title challenger.
Police, coached by Berdine Odemba, lead the league with 28 points from 13 games, the same as Vihiga, who have a lower goal difference.
Both teams drew 1-1 in the first leg at Kisumu's Moi Stadium on October 20.
Tumaini Waliula, the league's top scorer with 10 goals, gave Vihiga the lead in the 51st minute, before midfielder Merry Njeri equalized six minutes later.
“This is like any other game. This is the first time I've coached in the top tier and we don't know who the champion is yet. We'll find out when the league is over. I would like to encourage all the fans to come out in droves. Please support us, this is what the girls need,” Odemba told Nation Sports yesterday.
Star-studded Police will be counting on strikers Rebecca Okwaro, the club's top scorer with nine goals, and Puleng Arkwe with seven, to help them overtake the champions.
Alkwe is the only player in the league to score a hat-trick twice, achieving the feat against Bungoma Queens on October 14 and against Bunyore Starlets last month.
Vihiga have lost several key players since their last meeting with the police.
Janet Mola Bundi has joined Yanga Princess of the Tanzania Women's Premier League, while Marceline Wayodi signed a two-year contract with Uganda's Kampala Queens this week.
Bertha Omitta moved to Indian side Setu FC in December.
Goalkeeper Pauline Catur and midfielders Jennifer Mueni and Miriam Olapidi have joined Vihiga from Gaspo.
“We have come looking for wins and our aim is to get all three points. Nairobi is also our away home. We were second in the league but in the end we won the league. ” said Nyamnyam.
The league is a two-horse race between Polis and Vihiga, but Ulinzi Starlets and Kibera still have a chance to win the title.
Ulinji are in 3rd place with 23 points, while Kibera are in 4th place with 21 points.
In other matches this weekend, Ulinzi will host Nakuru City Queens at Ulinzi Stadium in Nairobi while Bunyore Starlets will take on Zetek Sparks at Mumboha Ground in Vihiga County.
The mid-season transfer window for the FKF Premier League, Women's Premier League, National Super League, Women's National Super League, Men's and Women's Division 1 Leagues officially closed on Thursday night.
