A night shift worker lost his life in a fire accident that occurred at a steel sheet manufacturing factory in Isinya, Kajiado District.
Police said four other workers were injured in the fire and are currently receiving treatment.
According to police and witnesses, the fire broke out Wednesday night while employees were actively engaged in their duties.
Factory officials told police the incident occurred in a furnace that melts scrap metal.
“While workers were responding, an explosion occurred and a fire affected five people. One person died in hospital and four others were being cared for with injuries.”
Police said one of the victims was in critical condition.
The deceased employee's body has been placed in a local mortuary, pending an autopsy and further investigation.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. A team investigating the incident visited the spot on Thursday.
They aim to understand whether safety measures were taken for workers while on duty.
Management said it would not comment because the matter is still under investigation.
Fire at fast food restaurant
A fire broke out at a fast food restaurant along Langata Road in Nairobi, destroying the building.
According to the co-owner, two refrigerators, three cooking utensils, three french fries, five shelves, two grills, and various cooking utensils were destroyed.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The fire broke out on the 11th floor of the building.
Nairobi County Fire Brigade managed to bring the inferno under control.
Property of unknown value was destroyed and the cause of the fire is not yet known, police said.
