New Windows-powered PCs often start up within seconds, but most PCs start to slow down over time. If you're looking for ways to speed up your PC's startup time, here are three tips and tricks that will help you shave off a few precious seconds and save you tons of time in the long run.
Like Android and iOS-based mobile devices, Windows PCs load several programs each time they start. Your phone has some processes loading in the background, but your Windows PC has a lot going on. When you install new software on your system, these programs can multiply over time and cause your PC to become unusually slow. However, most of them are[スタートアップ]You can easily disable it from the section.
To do this, right-click the taskbar or use the Ctrl+Alt+Del keyboard shortcut and in the window that appears, click[タスク マネージャー]Click to open Task Manager. Once done, find and press the “Startup” tab on the top bar. You'll see a list of apps that load every time you start your PC.
Most of them are safe to disable, but some will prevent you from using certain features. However, these programs work fine when opened manually. Also, if you right-click on the app name, you'll get an option to search the internet for what the app does. The redesigned Task Manager in Windows 10 and Windows 11 also shows you how much impact each program has when your PC starts, so you can easily disable programs you don't need.
Upgrade HDD to SSD
There are some software tricks that can help you save a few seconds when your PC starts up, but there's only so much you can do with software optimization. If you have a Windows PC with a hard disk and can spend a few bucks to speed it up, be sure to upgrade your old mechanical hard disk to a solid-state drive (also known as an SSD). Compared to traditional hard disks with moving parts, these drives are significantly faster overall.
Installing Windows on an SSD increases overall system speed and responsiveness, reduces app load times, and improves performance. Since Windows requires between 20 GB and 50 GB of space, you can always go for a cheap 120 GB drive starting from Rs 1,000. We already have a list of budget-friendly SSDs, so check that out as well.
Hibernate or sleep your PC
However, sleep mode isn't ideal for desktops because you often unplug them when you're done using them. This is where the hibernation option comes into play. Hibernating a Windows machine saves any apps that were open when you press the button and allows you to turn off the main power. However, this feature is disabled by default.
To enable hibernation options on your Windows PC,[スタート]Open the menu and[コントロール パネル]Search for and click. Then click on “Power Options” and select the “Choose what the power buttons do” option on the left panel. Then click on “Change settings that are currently unavailable”, check the “Hibernate” box and press the “Save changes” button at the bottom.
