The government has launched the 90 Million Lice Water Project, which aims to provide sustainable access to clean water to over 50,000 households in West Pokot District.
Water and Sanitation PS Julius Korir launched the Murny Chepaleria water project. This project is of great importance as it aims to address the water needs of communities residing in Chepareria, Kipkomo, Senetwa and Iwalateke within the Pokot South constituency.
Mr Korir also inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mthemburu-Kitarakapel water project to improve access to goods in the Kapenguria constituency.
The PS has revealed that more than 11,000 households in the Mthembuur-Kitarekapel area, including Kopoti Trade Center and Raila Road Junction, will benefit from the Mthembuur-Kitarekaper water project.
He disclosed that the water pipeline will serve important government offices and several educational facilities located along the allocated route.
“Access to clean, reliable water is essential for public health, education and economic prosperity, and this project represents an important investment in the well-being and progress of local residents,” he said.
The PS stressed that the introduction of the two water initiatives by the government represents a major step forward in promoting water security and improving the quality of life of local residents.
Mr. Korir noted that the initiation of water projects in the region further underlines the government's commitment to ensuring access to clean water for its citizens.
The PS elaborated that the Murny Chepareria water project will benefit more than 50,000 households in Chepareria, Kipkomo, Senetu, Iwarateke and Mopas within Baltei district.
He said the project is a major step forward in improving the quality of life for a large portion of the community.
He further disclosed that the water project is expected to have a significant impact on the local community and improve the health, hygiene and overall welfare of the community.
Mr Korir revealed that the capacity of the water project is to generate 3 million liters of water every day, highlighting its considerable scale and potential impact.
He revealed that the water project will not only address the current water scarcity problem, but also establish a foundation for continued socio-economic growth and improved quality of life for residents.
He observed that having large quantities of water would definitely alleviate the hardships of residents who previously had to travel far to find this vital resource.
“The aim of this project to bring clean water closer to home will not only improve the overall quality of life of these communities, but also reduce the time and effort required,” said PS Korir.
He said the availability of reliable water sources could have a wide range of benefits, from enhancing health and hygiene to boosting economic activity and agricultural progress.
Mr. Corir emphasized the importance of this initiative in reducing waterborne diseases and emphasized the critical role it plays in protecting the county's public health.

Mr Corir said it was important to incorporate gravity systems to ensure the lasting sustainability of basic water supply infrastructure.
