THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A huge idol of Nandi, Lord Shiva's bull vahana (mountain), will soon be installed at the Bala Tripura Sundari Devi temple at Purnamikavu in Venganore. According to temple authorities, the statue is carved from a single piece of marble and is the tallest in the state.
A procession to the temple carrying new idols, including Nandi, will enter the district on Friday. It started from Jaipur in Rajasthan 10 days ago and the idols are being transported in three trailers. The idol of Adiparasakti, carved from a single piece of marble, is 23.5 feet tall and weighs 30 tonnes, while the idol of Durga Rajamatangi Devis is 12 feet tall. The dimensions of the Nandi statue have not been disclosed. In Kerala, the procession had a reception at Sringeri Sankara Madom in Kalady, Thrissur.
Sankaramadom Manager Mr. Ramasubramaniam, Assistant Manager Mr. Suryanarayana Bhat, SNDP Kaladhi Unit Chairman Mr. Nirupala Karnan, VHP Leader Mr. Subin, Sai Chandramadom Director Mr. Sreenivasan, Mr. Saneesh Chemanur, Mr. Kaladi Baiju and Mr. Parrikar Sunil attended the reception.
The procession will have a reception at Kilimanoor and reach Enchakkal in Thiruvananthapuram between 11 am and noon on Friday. From there, another reception followed by heading to Purnamikavu.
