Manhattan, Kan. – A total of 30 undergraduate students presented research posters at the Kansas State University Department of Animal Science and Industry Research Symposium on Friday, May 3. The symposium, held at the Leadership Research Town Hall, focused on ASI undergraduate research for the spring 2024 semester.
The Dr. Mark and Kim Young Animal Science and Industry Undergraduate Research Fund sponsored the Undergraduate Research Awards, which were distributed during this year's symposium and event.
Four students were awarded $1,000 scholarships based on a combination of scientific abstracts, posters, and data presentations. Chesney Efling of Highmore, South Dakota, won the scholarship. Undergraduate study allows you to conduct in-depth research, gain transferable skills, develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, define your academic and professional interests, and develop relationships with mentors, professors, and It's an opportunity to build relationships with other students. This program gives students the opportunity to work on challenging projects in collaboration with ASI faculty and graduate students, helping them prepare for their next goals. Undergraduate research helps students understand the value and limitations of data.
Whether they go to graduate school, return to the ranch, or enter industry, these students will be using data every day to make decisions. Your undergraduate research experience will help you understand how to evaluate data in your decision-making process, helping you become more successful as an animal scientist.
