On Thursday, May 9, four people belonging to the same family died in a horrific road accident when the car they were traveling in plunged into the river under the Tenwek Bridge along the Bomet-Olengruone Expressway.
Bomet Central Sub-County Police Commander Musa Omar confirmed the incident.

He said the truck collided with the rear of the saloon car of the four people who died, sending them flying under the bridge.
The personal vehicle crashed into the Nyangoleshi River and the occupants died at the scene.
How did the Ten Wek Bridge accident happen?
Raging waters washed away the remains of the car, but the victim, still inside, became trapped in river vegetation.
“The canter crashed into the back of the saloon car and threw it off the road into the Nyangoleshi River. The car was swept about 500 meters downstream, where it was propped up against a tree near the river,” Omar told reporters.

Police worked with members of the public who were watching to pull the vehicle out of the river.
Only three bodies, one man and two women, were recovered and taken to the Longisa Hospital mortuary.

The remaining bodies were of minors and had not yet been found at the time of this writing.
Meanwhile, the truck driver fled the accident scene and the wreckage of the car was towed to Bomet Police Station.

The accident occurred a month after a matatu crashed into a tractor in Saraek village on the Orenguruone-Silibwet road, killing five people and injuring 18 others.
The injured were admitted to Tenwek Hospital.
Police said the driver of the Matu, who was heading towards Bomet, veered from the correct lane and crashed into the tractor.
